Orderly Worship | 1 Corinthians 14:26-33
1. Orderly worship builds up the church (v.26)
26 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
1. Will this honor Jesus?
2. Is this consistent with God’s Word?
3. Will this help others?
4. Will this strengthen the church?
2. Orderly worship properly exercises spiritual gifts (v. 27-32)
27 If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. 28 But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30 If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be
encouraged, 32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
1. Be willing to yield
2. Be willing to take turns
Romans 12:10: Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
3. Be willing to listen to others
James 3:17: But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
4. Be willing to make room for others
Philippians 2:3-4: 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
3. Orderly worship reflects the character of God (v.33)
33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.
Colossians 1:16-17: 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
James 3:16: For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
James 3:18: And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
