How To Honor God With Our Bodies

I want to give you three truths about honoring God with our bodies:

1. Our bodies belong to God (v.12-13)

12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are  helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be  dominated by anything. 13 “Food is meant for the  stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will  destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant  for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for  the body.

1. It was created to know him

John 17:3: And this is eternal life, that they know  you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you  have sent.

2. It was created to serve him

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship,  created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God  prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

3. It was created to obey him

Romas 12:1: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by  the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a  living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is  your spiritual worship.

4. It was created to glorify him

Isaiah 43:7: Everyone who is called by my name,  whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and  made.

2. Our bodies unite with Christ (v.14-18)

14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by  his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are  members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of  Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!  16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a  prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is  written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is  joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee  from sexual immorality. Every other sina person  commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral  person sins against his own body.

3. Our bodies house the Holy Spirit (v.19-20)

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the  Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You  are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So  glorify God in your body.

1. Replace asking, “should I do this?” to “will this  glorify God?

Colossians 3:17: And whatever you do, in word or  deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,  giving thanks to God the Father through him.

2. RUN from every form of sexual immorality and  pursue righteousness

2 Timothy 2:22: So flee youthful passions and  pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along  with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

3. Treat your temple (body) with honor and care

1 Corinthians 3:16-17: 16 Do you not know that you  are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in  you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will  destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are  that temple.
